Who We Are
The Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County (PMHSKC) is devoted to caring for and placing unwanted and abandoned animals in loving homes; promoting responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of all animals; demonstrating and enhancing the benefits of the human animal bond and ending pet overpopulation through aggressive spay/neuter and Trap Neuter Return programs.
What We Do
PMHSKC serves 20 communities throughout the Mid-coast region. In 2012 PMHSKC took in nearly 1,500 animals and found homes for 98% of them. We provide assistance, access and transportation for low-cost spaying and neutering, have microchipped over 500 owned dogs, and even help other shelters by taking in animals they do not have space for. PMHSKC is funded entirely by donations, town fees, bequests and the generosity of people like you—we don’t receive any government funding.
