Who We Are
The primary purpose of the Penobscot School is to offer courses of instruction in foreign languages and in other subjects which serve to increase students' knowledge of languages and cultures other than their own. It is the secondary purpose of Penobscot School to educate the public informally on such subjects through forums, lectures, film showings, demonstrations and other such means. Founded in 1986, Penobscot School has historically brought a large number of people into its fold. This includes instructors, students, staff, host families and others. A Board of Directors manages the activities of the school. Agency positions include President, Chair of the Board and Executive Director. The school actively seeks the widest possible ethnic, racial and national diversity in its student body, faculty and staff.
What We Do
Penobscot School provides language and cultural learning opportunities to the great MidCoast Maine area as well as to students from other areas in the United States and abroad. MidCoast Maine communities may enjoy language learning in several of the world's languages. These are frequently with native speakers and offered year-round. English Immersions provide individuals from around the world with a three-week, intensive English learning opportunity. Cultural events throughout the year are a final facet our the school's work.
