User Terms and Conditions

Thank you for your interest in searching for volunteer opportunities and events through VolunteerME Mid Coast Maine, a website managed by United Way of Mid Coast Maine (UWMCM) (also referred to as "we" or "us" throughout these terms) and made possible by United Ways of Maine.

We take volunteering seriously and hope that you and the organizations on the website do as well. We want you to connect with the best opportunities possible, have a positive experience, and come back for more.

Below are the basics we need you to commit to when you create a user account on our site.

Acceptance of Terms

Your creation of a user account on our site indicates that you accept these Terms and Conditions, as well as these additional notes:

  • From time to time, we may revise these Terms and Conditions (based on your feedback or otherwise) and update this document.
  • If we make changes to these terms and conditions, we will alert users via an automated email through the website.
  • It is your responsibility to review any updated terms and conditions.

If you no longer agree to these Terms and Conditions, you need to end your use of VolunteerME Mid Coast Maine. If you would like to deactivate your user account, you may do so at any time. Go to Edit Profile and click on Deactivate Account.

Exceptions to these Terms and Conditions may be made at our sole discretion.

Website Structure and Featured Organizations

This website is one of 10 local sites based on service areas of United Ways of Maine. Organization, opportunity, and events listings roll up to and are also visible on the state site, http://getconnected.volunteermaine.org. Users respond to opportunities and organizations manage their accounts primarily on the relevant local site.

As you search the site for opportunities, you may see that we accept several types of organizations, including:

  • nonprofit or government entities
  • schools
  • faith-based organizations
  • neighborhood associations
  • recognized community collaboratives
  • for-profit organizations that engage volunteers in direct client contact

These organizations may use VolunteerME Mid Coast Maine to post their volunteer opportunities and events that take place in Sagadahoc, Lincoln, and Knox counties, Brunswick, and Harpswell.

Please note that organizations accepted on our website do not need to be funded community partners of United Way of Mid Coast Maine.

Content and Conduct Disclaimers

Organizations other than United Way of Mid Coast Maine submit the majority of content that comprises VolunteerME Mid Coast Maine. While UWMCM representatives approve the majority of the content for display on the site, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all listings have current and accurate information.

The inclusion of any organization or user in the website or its content does not mean that we represent, warrantee, or endorse the organization or user with respect to their competence, suitability, or reliability. You agree that we are not endorsing the volunteer opportunities, events, or organizations provided through the service, and likewise, that we are not screening or approving you or other users for suitability for the opportunities you may respond to through the website.

Your contact with organizations and users is at your own risk, and we are not liable for any damage, loss, or injury resulting from your contact with any such organization or person.

While we encourage organizations to follow up with all responses submitted through the site, we are unable to guarantee that they will do so.

Liability Waiver

We and our licensors disclaim all responsibility and liability for any loss, injury, claim, liability, or damage of any kind, including indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages of any kind (including, without limitation, attorneys’ fees and expenses) resulting from, arising out of, or in any way related to the services or the content, including, without limitation:

  • any third-party websites, services, or content directly or indirectly accessed through the services;
  • the termination of your access to the services;
  • any errors in, or omissions from, the content (including, but not limited to, technical inaccuracies and typographical errors);
  • the complete or partial unavailability of the services or content;
  • your use of, or inability to use, the services;
  • your use of any equipment or software in connection with the services;
  • any computer viruses, "worms" or "Trojan horses," any other type of destructive or malicious computer code (by any name), or any unauthorized computer code that is attached to, or made part of, the services or content by any person, group, or organizations.

User Data, Privacy, and Security

When you create an account, you voluntarily submit personal data, which may include your name, email address, address, company name, phone number, password, etc. We appreciate your efforts to provide accurate and complete information and to make any changes or updates to your profile as they arise.

Please take adequate precautions to safeguard your password, as you are responsible for all use of the website by anyone accessing the website through your account. You will defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from and against any and all claims, liabilities, or expenses arising out of any such use of the services.

The website provider has put in place commercially reasonable physical, electronic, and managerial procedures designed to safeguard and secure the information collected for reasonable foreseeable risk. However, due to the open communication nature of the Internet, we cannot guarantee that communication through the site will be free from unauthorized access by third parties. We make no warranties as to the security of your data communications, or that third parties will not gain unauthorized access to or monitor your computer(s) or online communications. You agree that we will not be liable for such access.

Your contact information is shared with the relevant organization when you respond to an opportunity or event through the website. We do not share contact information that users submit through this website and will not sell or rent it to anyone. We will not share users’ information with any third party outside of our organization other than affiliates, contractors, advisors, service providers, or in our reasonable discretion to investigate or prevent fraud, illegal activity, or misuse of our website.

We may occasionally generate reports about user activity in order to provide county or statewide volunteerism statistics with the general public or other interested parties, or for continuous improvement purposes. Data will be included in the aggregate and will not identify specific users.

Intellectual Property Rights & Grant of License

You may only use the content, services, or intellectual property for personal and organizational use as expressly permitted by these Terms of Service and for no other purposes.

You may not use the website for:

  • Development of a volunteer-focused database that uses some or all of the content and is in competition with this United Way platform;
  • Financial or other gain by using some or all of the content.

You may not duplicate, transmit, redistribute, or publish the content, or parts of the content. You may not use any network monitoring or discovery software to extract information about usage or users of the services. You may not use any robot, spider, other automatic device or manual process to monitor or copy the content. Any violation of the foregoing provisions constitutes unauthorized use and may result in civil or criminal liability.

Communication

As a user, you may receive automated email and in-app messages from the website (e.g., automated emails when you respond to an opportunity, occasional emails suggesting organizations and opportunities of interest, etc.).

You may opt out of such communications from our site. Go to Edit Profile and scroll down to Settings. Turn the "Receive system emails and messages" button from ON to OFF.
