Who We Are

LifeFlight?s vision for Maine is a place in which every person, in every community, has access to critical care and medical transport when they need it. We do this by working with our EMS partners to transform the critical care transport medicine system into an integrated, high quality, patient-centered system worthy of the public?s trust LifeFlight services are only used at the request of emergency medical services providers or physicians. LifeFlight services have been used by every hospital in the state, at emergency scenes in more than 330 communities, islands and unorganized townships in every county in Maine. Eighty percent of LifeFlight?s missions are from rural, community hospitals to one of Maine?s three trauma centers, or to specialty centers in Boston. Twenty percent of the flights are to accident scenes. Since our establishment in 1998, more than 15,000 patients have been safely transported by ground or air. Nearly 20 percent of our patients are under the age of 25. More than 30 percent of our patients have either severe head and brain injuries, or multiple injuries that require the specialized care of a trauma center. Other transports include people in need of a variety of critical care such as: cardiac, respiratory, neurological, surgical, burn, environmental, high risk obstetrics and pediatric care.

What We Do

Mission Most people who need emergency medical care can be appropriately transported by ground ambulance. The sickest patients, however, need the critical care and speed that LifeFlight provides. LifeFlight?s vision for Maine is a place in which every person, in every community, has access to critical care and medical transport when they need it. We do this by working with our EMS partners to transform the critical care transport medicine system into an integrated, high quality, patient-centered system worthy of the public?s trust. Meet the Team LifeFlight of Maine?s most valuable assets are people. The people who provide critical care and compassion; the people who fly the aircraft safely; the people who answer the calls for assistance and take care of the logistical details; the people who work behind the scenes to help build a safe and reliable system to ensure everyone in Maine has access to the critical healthcare they need, when they need it. LifeFlight Foundation The Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides fundraising and public relations support to LifeFlight of Maine. Supported by the generosity of the many friends of LifeFlight, the Foundation raises funds for aircraft, medical equipment, hospital helipads, statewide aviation improvements and the many educational outreach programs offered by the LifeFlight crew.
