Who We Are

WindowDressers is an almost entirely volunteer-run organization. Our small staff supports about 50 Community Builds in ME, NH & VT with about 25 in Maine with the help of thousands of volunteers. Our model is about building community while we build energy-saving interior window inserts. Volunteering with us is a great way to get to know members of your community! Please see www.windowdressers.org to learn more.

What We Do

WindowDressers brings volunteers together to improve the warmth and comfort of homes, lower heating costs, and reduce CO2 emissions by producing low-cost insulating window inserts that function as interior-mounted storm windows. Volunteers measure the windows of local residents homes and input the measurements into a computer. Those measurements are then used to create custom-sized kits, each labeled with the name of the resident and window. These kits are shipped to one of about 25 Community Build locations around the state where recipients of the inserts join other community volunteers to build the inserts over several days. No experience or special skills are necessary. Training is provided in each simple task on-site. Existing Community Builds are always looking for more volunteers to assist with measuring, building inserts, planning and management. New Community Build locations are added each year when new organizing teams work with our Program staff to begin a new location.
