Description

For the past twenty years, volunteers from around the country and overseas travel to the Museum in late April and over the Columbus Day weekend to help work on numerous projects at the Museum.

Join volunteers from around the country as we do the final "push" to open the Mountain Extension. Track work (laying, spiking, and ballasting) will be the major project - building the passing siding at our new northern terminus.
This is a major "all hands on deck" volunteer opportunity for participants of all ages and abilities. Work usually begins early in the morning, between 7 and 8 am, although people arrive at all times throughout the day, and typically concludes by 4pm.
For those who are not able to help lay track, other projects around the campus will be available.
The Museum supplies volunteers with most meals (breakfast, lunch, and supper) during the work weekend. Of course, steam-powered train rides to and from the work site are included as part of the fun.
New for 2022 - please RSVP using the ticketing link at wwfry.org/volunteer. We're honestly not sure how many folks to expect (pre-Covid, there were typically 100-150 people each live-long day.) [This RSVP applies even to our "regular" compadre of volunteers, too!]
All aboard: we're back, and we're layin' track!

All ages and abilities welcome. Young children require parental supervision.
