Description

A New Trail Forward

For decades, the WW&F Railway Museum has been pleased to share its historic right-of-way with the caretakers of the Trout Brook Nature Preserve for use as part of a hiking trail. With trains returning to Trout Brook after a 89-year absence, the "blue trail" must be relocated slightly so that nature lovers can safely share the corridor with the WW&F's narrow gauge trains.

Volunteers are needed to make this happen on Saturday June 12, 2021.

  • Volunteer shifts begin promptly at 8:45AM at 97 Cross Road, Alna, Maine
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to ensure work can begin on time
  • Alternatively, volunteers are welcome to skip the train ride, and meet the work party at Trout Brook Preserve, 1888 Alna Road, Alna.
  • Wear heeled, fully enclosed above the ankle boots (safety boots are preferable)
  • Wear full legged pants (no shorts, etc.)
  • Tools will be supplied, but feel free to bring ones that you are comfortable working with.
  • Please bring your own bagged lunch to be eaten at the worksite during the lunch break.
  • Work will conclude at 3PM.
  • Younger volunteers are welcome under appropriate adult supervision.

About Midcoast Conservancy and Trout Brook Preserve

The mission of Midcoast Conservancy is to protect vital lands and waters on a scale that matters and to inspire wonder and action on behalf of all species and the earth. Formed by combining four local land trusts in 2016 and a fifth in 2019, Midcoast Conservancy is now one of the largest regional conservation organizations in Maine, with over 13,000 acres of land conserved, keeping the area healthy for wildlife, fisheries, climate resiliency and local economies.

The 126-acre Trout Brook Preserve protects over 4,200 feet of the lower reaches of Trout Brook as well as frontage along the main stem of the Sheepscot River. A half-mile loop trail on the southern portion of the preserve traverses old orchards and pasture lands and affords a look at one of the wider sections of Trout Brook.
