The Neighborhood Cafe

The Neighborhood Cafe is a ministry of The Neighborhood United Church of Christ in Bath​,​ Maine.​ This past March we celebrated our tenth year of serving healthy homemade meals every Tuesday evening to anyone who is hungry. We did this in an atmosphere of warmth, kindness and dignity. We are an entirely volunteer organization whose focus is on creating community and relationship amongst ​all​ our neighbors.

We cook meals from scratch in our commercial kitchen - anywhere from 60 to 90 meals each week which are free of charge to anyone in need.We served our last in-person meal on March 10th and our first "to go"/curbside pickup meal just one week later. We recruited volunteer delivery drivers and fixed up an old van so that we could switch to a delivery model for many of our clients​, ​which we accomplished within a few short weeks.We are a partner agency with Good Shepherd Food Bank and get most of our meat from them for free or at a very low cost. We get fresh produce from Merrymeeting Gleaners and from our own garden in season. On days we aren't cooking we distribute frozen soups, fresh produce and canned goods. We sit with people, listen to them, and let them know that they are loved.
