Who We Are
HFH/7RM creates successful homeownership opportunities for families with limited incomes by building sustainable housing and repairing and weatherizing existing homes. In 2016, HFH/7RM celebrates its 25th Anniversary! HFH/7RM was founded in 1990 and serves all of Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties as well as Brunswick and Harpswell - 31 towns in mid-coast Maine. Since 1991, HFH/7RM has completed 43 new home constructions and rehabs to help more than 100 adults and children. In 2016 Habitat looks forward to continuing progress on its four-home subdivision in Brunswick. The first of the four was designated a veterans' build, built by volunteers who are veterans for a veteran and his family. The second of the four was designated a Faith Build to recognize the significant financial contributions of two faith communities - All Saints Parish and First Parish, Brunswick. The third of the four was designated an Education Build to promote a Learn and Build experience for students of all ages. The fourth is House #44 currently under construction. HFH/7RM continues to redefine its Weatherizing and Repair program, now promoting Aging in Place projects. In February 2007, HFH/7RM opened a ReStore in Bath. The ReStore's goal is to generate revenue towards the Habitat mission of providing decent, affordable housing for qualified applicants. Additionally, it provides low cost materials for the community and keeps good materials out of landfills. The ReStore moved from Bath to Topsham in September 2014.
What We Do
HFH/7RM coordinates the labor of volunteers with contributions of money and materials to build modest, affordable, energy-efficient housing and to weatherize family-owned homes in partnership with qualified families. New and rehabilitated homes are sold to our partner families at no profit and very low interest. HFH/7RM works with individuals and families who live in substandard housing, who make between 25-80% of the area median income, who have the ability to pay the very low interest mortgages, and who are willing to contribute 200 hours of "sweat equity" per adult in the household. This program is "not a hand-out, but a hand-up" allowing any family to develop self-satisfaction, pride, and confidence.
