Major Role:
(1) Create an environment that allows a restorative conversation to take place and facilitate a repair agreement with integrity. (2) Lead Facilitators only: Coordinate logistics and track progress of your case through to completion.
The Facilitator’s Responsibility to Conference Participants:
Every facilitator is expected to:
- Be clear about your role, keeping in mind that that role is different before, during, and after the conference.
- During the conference, capture and summarize the ideas of conference participants while keeping your own opinions to yourself.
- Recognize and respect the self-determination of all participants.
- Be sensitive to the needs of all conference participants, keeping track of time and pace.
- Foster the core values of the Community Resolution Conferencing program:
Responsibility, Honesty, Integrity, Service to Community, Positive Adult Role Models, and High Expectations.
- Uphold and practice the philosophy and principles of restorative justice: trust the process.
- Maintain respect for the reputations of all involved.
Lead facilitators are also expected to:
- Move through the steps of your case in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with conference participants and mentors.
