General Overview
The Campaign Cabinet is a group of volunteer community leaders with responsibility for achieving a successful Annual Campaign. Increasing fundraising results is critical to accomplishing United Way’s goals for community impact. Cabinet members’ work is especially important in the months leading up to the September Kick-off: opening doors to new workplace campaigns and new donors, setting goals for growth, visiting business/organization leadership (“leadership” herein) of potential and existing partner workplaces, helping to establish and strengthen United Way relationships, asking for increased giving and use of best campaign practices, securing commitments, and advocating for United Way of Mid Coast Maine. This opportunity will run for one year beginning in August/September 2024.
Cabinet Members are responsible for the success of their Portfolio(s). Specific responsibilities vary by Portfolio. Cabinet members report to the Campaign Chair, members are supported by United Way staff members as well.
Loaned Executives join the Campaign team in the fall and follow up on the commitments secured by Cabinet members. The Loaned Executives organize and speak at the actual campaign presentations, working with Employee Campaign Managers at the various workplaces. Cabinet members communicate with and support the Loaned Executive assigned to their Portfolio throughout the fall, to ensure overall fundraising success.
Responsibilities:
• Understand and speak effectively about United Way of Mid Coast Maine’s “Mission, Vision, and Values”
• Review all accounts for any connections to assist in Portfolio(s) establishment.
• Prospect for new companies to support our community
• Work closely with UWMCM staff on specific strategies and goals for each account within a Portfolio, identify the initial outreach person (staff or cabinet member)
• Initiate account visit with leadership(staff may accompany you) to discuss and present:
o Present UWMCM’s Mission, Vision, and Values and UWMCM’s targeted goals for the account, and ask about their community/business priorities.
• Review with staff a proposed goal for each Portfolio, and as a full Cabinet, recommend the overall Campaign Goal to United Way’s Board of Directors.
• Year - round requirements:
o January – May: review goals for the current year, plan for next campaign year goals, prepare and attend campaign finale, attend monthly or bi-monthly meetings, attend Campaign celebration
o May – August – attend monthly cabinet meetings, Update Division Goals & Totals, outreach to leaders – secure commitments, September – attend Campaign Kickoff
o August – December – Meetings will increase to bi-weekly, During the public Campaign, mid-September to mid-December, be readily accessible to the Loaned Executive(LE) assigned to the Portfolio, track progress, and follow up as needed to ensure successful Portfolio results and overall Campaign
Potential Cabinet members should:
• Have a passion for the organization’s mission
• Have a large circle of influence
• Be comfortable asking leadership for help in making United Way of Mid Coast Maine’s campaign a success
• Agree to attend meetings and be actively engaged
